Without Troubled Youth Programs Indianapolis Youngsters Have No Support

By Robert Parker

In days gone by communities looked after each other and nobody was left out in the cold. In this modern world, however, it is much different. People do not care for others and they focus on nothing but their own needs and wants. Young people, especially, are vulnerable to bad influences. Many of them have no income other than what they can beg on the streets and many others have no skills to find any employment at all. Without troubled youth programs Indianapolis youngsters will not stand a chance.

Social experts all agree that the very core of a healthy society consist of loving and supporting families. The unfortunate truth is that there are numerous dysfunctional families. Parents simply do not spend time with their children any longer and many parents are themselves struggling to cope with the pressures of modern life. Organizations trying to help young people therefore try their best to create an environment where they will feel wanted and protected.

Young people are under tremendous pressure. Jobs are scarce and many of them lack the skills necessary to find and hold a job. Many organizations therefore focus on equipping these youngsters with skills that will help them find employment. Some of them are even in partnership with some employers that are willing to give a youngster a chance or to help with training them.

The number of young people roaming the street, surviving on begging and petty crime is growing at an alarming rate. A large number of these young people have no self respect. They feel worthless and they see themselves as failures. Thankfully, there are organizations that provide counselling to help youngsters to believe in themselves and to develop a positive attitude to life.

Many youngsters will turn to crime and end up with a criminal record. A large percentage of them will become dependent upon substances, rendering them unable to become upstanding citizens. That is why a number of organizations focus on rehabilitation. This is a big challenge as substance abuse is rife among the homeless and the young. The failure rate is high but every success story is celebrated.

Another important priority is to get young people off the street. To this end, some organizations focus on providing them with shelter, food and clothing. Having a safe place to stay is a major step towards helping a young person to become an independent and productive member of society. Sadly, these facilities are few and far between and they simply cannot cope with the large numbers of young people that need help.

Sadly, organizations doing their best to help often battle to do so because they simply do not have enough resources. Even government departments concerned with social development have extremely limited resources and they simply cannot meet the enormous need for help. This lack of resources means that fewer needy youngsters can be helped. Society as a whole should become involved and accept responsibility.

If the future is in the hands of the youth then many nations are facing an uncertain future. The number of homeless and hopeless young people, even in affluent developed countries are rising at a very alarming rate. Action from all concerned is certainly very necessary.
