Things You Need To Know About Pet Grooming

By Karina Frost

If you want to have a pet, it is your responsibility to take a very good care of him. Pet grooming is quite simple for most breeds, but some longhair breeds require special attention. Both cats and dogs require regular brushing and trimming, but there are some other things to take care of. These animals are your new family members, ad you should treat them as such.

You need to find some respectable vet to take care about your pet's health condition, regular vaccination and all other stuff you cannot do by yourself. This person will schedule regular appointments, and give you some important info about maintaining your new furry friend. You can always go there in case of need.

Your pet should be fed with appropriate food. If you aren't sure which food to choose, consult your pet's breeder or your vet. Give your furry friend appropriate amounts of good quality food to keep him in good condition. Ask the vet if any food supplements are needed as well.

Pets have to be clean and tidy, and sometimes they have to take a bath. Bathing dogs too frequently isn't recommended, once in every three months is more than enough. Nevertheless, if you have to do it, don't hesitate, especially during summer. Just remember to use very mild shampoos.

Cats are usually obsessed with their hygiene, and they shouldn't be washed unless really dirty. Of course, if you are interested in shows, this is entirely different situation. In any case, give your cat or dog a good brushing before bathing him. This will remove dirt and dead hair. Use lukewarm water and mild shampoo, being especially careful when cleaning their eyes and ears. Rinse thoroughly.

Dry them with large towel. You can also use a blow dryer. Some pets won't appreciate such procedure, but if you are really gentle and allow them to examine this strange new object first, it might make things easier. If you cannot use a blow dryer, make sure they stay in warm environment until perfectly dry.

Both dogs and cats need to be regularly brushed. This procedure removes tangled and dead hair, spreads natural oils on their coats and keeps their skin clean and healthy. Long haired pets need daily brushing, some breeds need more frequent brushing only when they shed, twice a year, and when it comes to smooth haired breeds, once a week will be more than enough. Be gentle and every pet will enjoy in this.

Nail trimming is another thing that needs to be done regularly. Active dogs, for example, wear down their nails and you don't have to worry about it. House dogs, on the other hand, often have long nails that need to be trimmed. Dewclaws never touch the ground, and it's best to remove them before your dogs get hurt.

Professional grooming is the easiest solution. Good, reliable professional groomer will make sure your furry friend is always in a perfect condition. Reliable, experienced groomer knows the best handling techniques, safety procedures and even the most appropriate trimming styles for each breed. Your furry friend deserves to get the best you can give him.
